Team River Runner

Therapeutic Adventures is always looking for ways to expand and improve our programs and services. According to Andrews, Executive Director of TA, “We recognized long ago that partnerships are very important. TEAM RIVER RUNNER (TRR) is the clearly industry leader when it comes to offering whitewater kayaking and canoeing for Wounded Warriors and Disabled Veterans. This relationship is imperative because it provides us with important support, resources, and expertise to expand and better serve our military heroes who require rehabilitation for injuries sustained while defending our freedoms. We are excited to establish the TEAM RIVER RUNNER – Blue Ridge~Shenandoah Chapter.”

In the summer and fall of 2010, Andrews worked with Joe Mornini, Executive Director of TRR and Dave Robey, National New Site Coordinator TRR to establish the TEAM RIVER RUNNER – Blue Ridge~Shenandoah Chapter.

Since then, TRR-BRSC has been offering weekly introduction to adaptive paddling programs at the UVA-Aquatics and Fitness Center (AFC), local lakes and rivers. Thus far, we are currently serving Wounded Warriors who have suffered Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) caused by blast injuries while serving in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. This program, however, is available to any Wounded Warrior and/or Disabled Veteran who wishes to participate. We extend an open invitation to join us! Kayaking and canoeing are great lifetime activities with many benefits to aid in the healing, rehabilitation and recovery from injuries sustained while serving our country.

If you are interested or if you would like to refer someone who can benefit from this program, please contact Mark Andrews to receive more information: adaptive.guide@gmail.com or 434-981-5834.
